Pain Therapy (PRT)

Many people with chronic headaches and migraines have tried numerous treatments without achieving the desired recovery. Are you one of those who have tried everything without recovery or have been told that you will never get better, you are not alone. At Hemi Headache Clinic, we understand your frustration and offer a new and evidence-based treatment alternative: PRT.

Why choose PRT?

PRT (Pain Reprocessing Therapy) is a new approach to treating chronic pain, such as chronic headaches or migraines, for those who have tried everything with only slight or no effect on your pain. PRT is based on neuroscience and the principles of neuroplasticity, which is the ability of the brain to adapt and change throughout life. In PRT, the brain is retrained to interpret and respond to signals from the body correctly, thus breaking the cycle of chronic pain.

Studies show that the majority of people with chronic pain experience recovery after treatment with PRT. At the same time, the method is without side effects.

At Hemi, we combine PRT with our broad experience and knowledge of headaches and migraines.

PRT focuses on your specific situation and sets the direction towards a daily life with less pain and a better quality of life.

Our therapists are certified from the Pain Reprocessing Therapy Center at Alan Gordon in the United States.

What does a PRT course include?

A PRT course takes place through interviews, guided exercises and homework in the form of small manageable exercises and the transfer of new knowledge. The course starts with a short clarifying conversation, during which we will find out if PRT can be for you. If the answer is yes, we proceed with a course that includes:

Step 1: Review History
Review your specific history so that your therapist can gain an in-depth insight into your pain history for further progress.

Step 2: Learning and Development
You will be taught the theory behind PRT and you will be given small, manageable exercises that can be used to create change and start your process. Materials such as articles, drawings, books, videos etc. can be included in the course, depending on your situation.

Step 3: Application and Maintenance
Between conversations, you apply the knowledge and exercises you get. Your process is constantly being fine-tuned.

The goal is to guide you on the right path by giving you the knowledge and exercises that are relevant to help yourself in the right direction for the rest of your life.

How do I know if PRT is for me?

If you can recognize any of the below, PRT may be a method for you:

  • I have tried everything, but there is no or only short-term effect.
  • My symptoms are triggered by stress.
  • In addition to pain, I have other symptoms from my body that there is no physical explanation for such as chronic fatigue, nausea, itching, difficulty swallowing, dizziness, low back pain, tinnitus, IBS, etc.
  • My pain moves or changes character from, for example, burning to stinging or tearing.
  • My pain and symptoms have worsened over the years and more have occurred without physical explanation.

We offer a free pre-interview on video, where together we will find out if a PRT course is right for you.

Can you help if I have gone through a different course with no effect?

Yes, many of our patients have gone through procedures with no effect in the past. Our personalized and holistic approach ensures a treatment that is tailored to your needs and addresses both symptoms and underlying causes, based on our extensive experience with headache treatment.

Is it necessary to see your doctor first?

No, it is not a requirement to have a referral from your own doctor. You can come to us whether you've been to your own doctor first or not. We are based on your unique situation and adapt the treatment according to your needs.

Can you help me get an overview of your medical history?

Oh, absolutely. We help you review and create an overview of your medical history so that you have a better understanding of your treatment options and a clearer picture of your previous treatment courses.

Who pays for the treatment?

Hemi is a private headache clinic and receives both self-paying patients (see our prices here) and those with insurance and those referred under the expanded free hospital choice in the public domain. Please contact us for guidance on your insurance.

Can I use Hemi through my insurance?

Yes, we cooperate with several insurance companies. A referral from your doctor is required and the insurance must approve the treatment with us before you can book an appointment. Please contact us for guidance on your insurance.

What happens if Hemi can't help me?

If the healthcare professional determines that we cannot help you with your headache condition, you will be refunded your money for the consultation.

What if I have a referral to a practicing neurologist?

As a private headache clinic, we do not offer referrals from our own doctor with public payment, but many still choose to be treated with us as self-payers.
