Injection with botulinum toxin A is a treatment with which many people with chronic migraine experience good efficacy.

The treatment consists of small injections in specific areas around the head and neck, which go in and block pain signals and thereby indirectly block the development of migraine.

What can I expect from the treatment?

Treatment with Botulinum Toxin is done by giving you injections with small amounts of Botulinum Toxin. The treatment takes about 10 minutes and between 50 and 200 units of Botulinum toxin are used. In chronic migraine, we follow the PREEMPT protocol, which has shown efficacy against chronic migraine in several major studies.

If the treatment has a good effect, it should be repeated at intervals of 12 weeks. Many people experience a good effect already after the first treatment, but in some people the effect sets in properly only after the second treatment. We would therefore often recommend that the treatment be tried at least twice in order to properly assess the effect.

How Much Does Botulinum Toxin Treatment Cost?

The preliminary interview is free and completely non-binding. The treatment itself with Botulinum Toxin for Migraine costs DKK 4,300. The price includes the medicine itself.

The consultation takes 20 minutes. The injection itself usually takes no longer than 10 minutes.

How does Botulinum Toxin work?

The treatment itself follows a fixed pattern, with 31 injections given at specific points. The injections follow the Preempt protocol and are given in the forehead, temporal region, back of the head, edge of the skull and in the neck. You get 155 units injected. In addition, it is possible to add additional injection sites according to the 'follow the pain' principle - however, this is at the discretion of our healthcare professionals. What happens after treatment with Botulinum Toxin?

In most cases, treatment must be given at least twice in order to be able to assess the effect. Therefore, after the first treatment, a new treatment will be set up after 12 weeks. Before the next treatment, you and the Hemi health team can have a dialogue in the chat function about how the treatment works.
